Background: Valerie maintained a busy schedule as performer, teacher, accompanist and adjudicator throughout the region, concurrently studying voice and piano. She taught music at a private K-12 day school for over 15 years, and has adjudicated state and national piano and vocal competitions for the Association of Christian Schools International, Accelerated Christian Education, and the IFCA. She is a former church music director, pianist and organist of many years, and is a performing member in music at Highlands Community Church in Renton.

Qualifications: Valerie's music studies include Pensacola Christian College where she majored in music with a proficiency in voice and a secondary in piano, and Washington Baptist College. She is presently a student at Hope International University, expected to graduate with a Bachelor's in Human Development in 2009, continuing to Capella University for postgraduate work.

Associations: Professional Associations include the Music Teachers National Association, the Washington State Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers of The American College of Musicians, and the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Valerie is a member of the Music Education Network for the Visually Impaired of the Southern California Conservatory of Music, an international coalition of parents, educators, and students which specializes in musical education and training of visually impaired students. Though sighted, she is a member of the American Council of the Blind, and the Washington State Council of the Blind.

Valerie is also the Washington State coordinator for MusicLink, a scholarship program of the MusicLink Foundation.

Hobbies: Tenor recorder, writing, reading, as much crochet as possible, and anything Dalmatian.

Student Successes: Valerie's vocal students’ state competition standings were consistently first place, with multiple second and third places yearly, including national competitions when attended.

Strengths: Creative, curious, quick-witted, continuously learning.
Weaknesses: Chocolate.
